TEXAS CITY — Police on Friday released pictures of a man wanted in connection with a shooting that left a Texas City man in critical condition.

The search began after police found a 53-year-old man with several gunshot wounds shortly after receiving reports of gunshots at about 12:45 a.m. Friday in the 2000 block of Fifth Avenue North, according to a news release from the Texas City Police Department.

The victim, Hinds Yelverton, was transported by medical helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch. Yelverton underwent surgery and is in critical, but stable condition, officials said Saturday.

According to witness statements and photo identifications, the suspect was identified as 33-year-old Alfonso Lopez, the news release said.

Investigators have issued a warrant for Lopez for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the news release.

He is described as about 5-foot, 6-inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds.
