Good job by the policeman on the scene - de-escalating a dangerous situation.

Kenneth Cambiano

Great job by the police for sure. Does people really think the thing to do is to disband the the police. Who would they have called.

Bailey Jones

No one is advocating eliminating police. What is being advocated is reforming law enforcement and rethinking the way we police ourselves. This is a great example of good policing. In many cities, this would have ended in the death of this particular individual. That type of thinking - where more emphasis is placed on preserving life - is one reform that is sorely needed.

"No one is advocating eliminating police." Most are not but some are.

Kenneth Cambiano

Wake up America before it’s too late!!!!!

Wayne D Holt

Agreed. Kudos to the officer and the department for having training that encouraged the officer to use his best judgement to deescalate the immediate situation but return under conditions that did not permit the offense to go unpunished. Textbook example of what needs to happen to make community policing a positive force for residents of goodwill, no matter their race or economic condition.

Charles Douglas

Mr. Jones, are you sure that is the way Illhan Omar and AOC are seeing that issue?

Bailey Jones

I'm pretty sure, Charles.

How and why some humans become so irrational is the mystery the scientific and medical community (i wish) could find a vaccine to cure. Nothing justifies, no mitigating circumstances excuse these acts. We, humans, are all flawed and possess demons but also are gifted with the power to overcome and control ourselves from becoming a menace to ourselves and society. Fortunately, we have devised a mechanism and the institution where those that overtly show they are unredeemable to be warehoused for the protection of the general (practitioner's of goodwill), public.

David Hardee

No element or group or function of society escapes the irrational human and his act. The irrational incident when it happens is not unless chronic and disproportional should condemn the element, group, or function. The facts of this specific incident should not create emotions that result in group irrational reaction. Group irrational acts are an indication of systemic infection of irrationality and should be treated as drastically as necessary to restore tranquility to the general (goodwill) public. Inconsistency in the treatment of either the individual or the group's irrational acts is acquiescence to the destruction of society, anarchy.

Grievances must be made in a manner that is rational. Demonstrations that result in mob/destruction/criminal acts are to be subjected to the condemnation of the entire group the same as accomplices to a criminal act when it has been proven that they repetitively and chronically result in violence and harm. What is happening under the motto of grievance is a projection of a belief that systemic psychology exists across a specific portion of society. That is not only ridiculous but by the diversity of participation in the demonstration proven illogical.

This is a textbook example of good policing by the Bayou Vista officer. I'm proud of him!

Rick Altemose

Him or her, I should say

Good job by the police, and that is for sure! Disbanding and Defunding the police is the most ignorant thing I have heard in the last twenty years! Sure there are bad police officers, the bad apples slip through cracks in the processes of eligibility and qualifications set up to hire applicants to serve! Those cracks need to be closed, for there is no room for ill-qualified, corrupted, or rogue cops on any police force, polluting and staining the good name and good work of the many legitimate hard working officers serving and protecting us! That BLUE LINE of silence should also disappear! No officer should be compelled to cover-up nor turn a head to wrongdoings he or she feels uncomfortable witnessing! What happened a week ago in Minneapolis is a good example. There were three Officers on the scene of Mr. FLOYD'S murder who should have intervened! If They had been made comfortable by upper management concerning protocol and challenging bad behavior by other officers, maybe what happened, in Minneapolis ..would NOT have taken place. Juniors officers in the Minneapolis incident would have received no worse reprisals for stopping the rogue officer, than they got for standing there doing nothing while the rogue officer killed Mr. Floyd. So yes there is definitely work to be done by police departments rooting out known unfit employees, but...but... refunding, or disbanding our police forces, is asinine.

Charles Douglas

I meant defunding not refunding. Spell check acting up.

Bailey Jones

Shouldn't we get a refund when the cops we paid for turn out to be bad?

Charles Douglas

Mr. Jones maybe in certain situations ...redress but I don't know about refunds.lolol, but what do this old East Texas Plow-boy knows?lolo.

Virginia Stone

Why did it take until Monday to arrest Esquivel, if he was threatening people with multiple guns and a police officer with his vehicle, arent the threats and attempted assault of a police officer enough to arrest him immediately?

Bailey Jones

Need to get arrest and search warrants.

Doug Sivyer

Excellent police work de-escalating. Perhaps this officer should be promoted and promoted to train officers in police departments nation wide!
