Wow! All of a sudden the City of Galveston can’t handle large tourist crowds? That’s laughable since they invite and handle large crowds when there isn’t a coronavirus emergency.

Here’s an idea. Don’t enforce social distancing on the beaches. Now you don’t need help!

Raymond Lewis

I suspect there is a reason you are not in charge Mr. Taft.

Ray Taft

I suspect you and others should stay home if you want, but let ‘we the people’ go. Enough is enough.

Nonsense that suddenly they can’t hand large crowds.

Gary Miller

Ray> Large crowds are killing more virus than small crowds.

Ruth Korhonen

Agreed

Carlos Ponce

social distancing - I am reminded of a movie, I think it was "Heaven Help Us!" where in a Catholic School dance the nuns would tell young couples to leave room for Jesus between them while dancing.

Gary Miller

Ray> Don't forget Yarbrouugh is a Democrat and like other Democrats hopes for a recession.

Gary Miller

Galveston is counting cars and people. Other people are counting deaths and where they happen. They say people are 3 times more likely to get and die from Covid 19 in blue (Democrat) cities or 6 to 7 times more likely to die if the Blue city is in a blue State. Democrats are hazardious to your health.Blue city Mayors in blue States are killers.

Ray Taft

Not only are Democrats hazardous to our health. They’re hazardous to the economy and our civil rights.

Oust Democrats everywhere in November for freedom’s sake.

Gary Miller

Ray> You got it right.

It is sad that the Mayor requested help from the State and was denied. The GPD does not have enough officers to enforce social distancing. Social distancing enforcement is a whole different story.

Carlos Ponce

If people are afraid of catching COVID-19 they will self social distance. Does someone need to tell you to avoid danger?

😩Oh say it ain’t so. The great Democrat mayor can’t figure out how to do his job!

Hey Galveston. Stop electing Democrats and get a Republican - they know how to get things done.

Gary Miller

Ray> Keep it up. You might educate one Democrat some day.

Wayne D Holt

"The GPD does not have enough officers to enforce social distancing."

That should be the first clue to government that what they are promoting has a fundamental flaw in the design. When the government is unable to get people to do something in the people's interest, it is generally because they haven't been able to show evidence to support what they claim and the people simply look at the track record of government and decide to trust their own judgement. Smart move.

When government totally fails at predicting what the level of threat is or preparing for it, but is wildly successful in hosing 30,000,000 Americans and counting, a candid consideration of the facts suggests the problem isn't We The People, it's They The Government.

In this case, the Department of Public Safety wisely chose not to accept the invitation to Custer's Last Beach Party and will let City Hall's Canute wannabes take one for the team.

Gary Miller

Wayne> I wish every one understood government inepitude as well as you do.

Wayne D Holt

If ever there was a case of King Canute Syndrome, this has got to be it. There is no way people are going to avoid exposure long term unless they want to lay in bed at home with a self-contained breathing apparatus on and have meals brought in by Howard Hughes devotees.

This has moved past idiotic into the pathological, and that is not an exaggeration. The plan from Day 1 should have been 1) quarantine the obviously unwell; 2) protect the vulnerable; 3) reasonably minimize exposure.

You shouldn't 1) insist on continuing brain dead policies that were unnecessary; 2) put your responders in jeopardy for no good reason doing things that will in most cases make no difference for people who for the most part are standing near people they drove down to Galveston in a closed vehicle with; 3) ask the governor to join in the parade of folly you have personally promoted for months.

This has gone beyond failed public policy to the level deserving a clinical study on how far those in government will go to desperately appear relevant.

The truth is, we would have been better off if the political classes had been forced to stay at home with no ability to communicate. We would have been looking at about the same number of hospitalized and dying from this virus. We wouldn't be looking at 30,000,000+ unemployed and climbing, with American small /medium businesses destroyed by people who almost without exception couldn't figure out how to give away ice cold lemonade at an oasis.

Contrary to how this is presented in reports, the normal ones are the ones who came down to the beach in the thousands. The ones who think all it takes to avoid this virus is shuttering the last vestiges of Galveston civic life are the ones who need to be watched.

Gary Miller

Wayne> Repeat, Repeat, Repeat is wasted on Bureaucrats who think Elected or appointed increases their IQ. The average IQ of politicians is lower than We The People. Politicians appoint bureaucrats with lower IQ's than low IQ politicians.

Paul Sivon

The usual comments by Daft and Dolt do not matter, since although they take up space, but have no weight.

Carlos Ponce

Their comments are to be respected, Paul. If you disagree please articulate.

Wayne D Holt

For months, I've posted numerous direct links, direct quotes, time lines and opinions from internationally recognized authorities in this comment section that support my position regarding this topic. I don't recall ever having seen you do the same. Have I missed those? If so, please post them right here and we can evaluate them for their weightiness, in turn.

Gary Miller

Limiting Cafe and Resturants to 25 % is proof that Bureaucrats don't spend much time thinking. Most Cafe's and Resturants Never average 25 % capacity.85% or 90% during one or two hours a day is great.

Gary Miller

Consider the IQ of the NY governor. He says there should be fines for not wearing a mask in public? Then today he says his experts say 60% of state cases were people who stayed home until they had to get out for medicine or food. They wore masks and were infected by people wearing masks. He is the governor that had 3,500 beds, a new hospital and a hospital ship, dedicated to Covid 19 Victims but required senior care homes to admit them. The same governor that said he wished every one not paying state taxes would leave the state. Is killing senior subjects part of that policy?
