A La Marque who police allege had hundreds of prescription pills in his car was charged with felony drug possession after a traffic stop.

Police attempted to stop a car in the 300 block of Albert Street in La Marque about 10:30 p.m. March 3, but the driver continued slowly along for another 40 minutes before stopping in the 2300 block of Boss Street, according to a police complaint.

Officers, who said they smelled marijuana, searched the vehicle, according to the complaint.

Police reported finding 168 carisoprodol tablets and 293 hydrocodone tablets, according to the complaint. Carisoprodol is a prescription muscle relaxer. Hydrocodone is a prescription painkiller.

Police also found a scale, sandwich bags, $2,726 in cash and pill bottles with the labels torn off, according to the complaint.

Fred Harris, 48, was charged on two counts of manufacture or delivery of a penalty group 3 or 4 controlled substance. He was held on bonds totaling $500,000, according to jail records. He was still in custody on Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
