A La Marque man Wednesday was sentenced to 10 years in prison over a drug arrest made in April 2017 in Galveston during a traffic stop.

A Galveston County jury Wednesday found Jeff Craig Janecka, 50, guilty on a charge of possession of a controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams after a trial that began Monday, Assistant District Attorney Anthony Smith said.

Galveston police stopped Janecka in April 2017 because he was speeding and not staying in his lane, Smith said.

Officers thought Janecka seemed under the influence of narcotics and found a scale and small bags during a search that were later identified to have 1.14 grams of methamphetamine, Smith said.

Janecka will be eligible for parole after serving a fourth of his sentence, Smith said.
