Three children were killed, a woman wounded and a man taken into custody late Thursday in connection to the shootings, police said.

Police arrested Junaid Hashim Mehmood, 27, of Texas City, just before 11 p.m. at a restaurant on El Dorado Boulevard in south Houston after a manhunt that began about five hours earlier, a police department spokesman said.

Law officers began searching for Mehmood after responding to a call about 6:15 p.m. at the Pointe Ann Apartments, 1225 10th Street N., where they found three children shot dead and a woman injured.

Killed were a 5-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl and an girl infant, police said.

The woman was taken to a University of Texas Medical Branch hospital, where she was in stable condition Thursday evening, police said.

Police did not immediately name the victims or say what connection they had to Mehmood.

Mehmood had not been charged late Thursday in connection with the shootings, but was arrested on an unrelated warrant, police said.

The department asked anyone with information about the shooting to call 409-643-5720.
