Cinco de Mayo celebrated at annual fiesta in Galveston
People gathered Saturday at the Galveston County Courthouse,722 21st St., on the island for the League of United Latin American Citizens Council No. 151’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. The celebration of Mexican heritage featured Burnet Elementary School’s ballet folklorico, a performance by Itzcoatl Tezcatlipoca-Danza Azteca, live music and more.
The holiday celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French on May 5, 1862.
