People gathered Saturday at the Wright Cuney Recreation Center, 718 41st St. in Galveston, to remember community activist Jama Jihad Shabazz, who died July 3.

Shabazz, 72, was known as Coach Jib to many in Galveston, where he had coached youth sports for more than 20 years. He also served as a mentor to many young men and women in the community.
