Construction timeline on I-45 feeder

Traffic backs up onto Broadway Boulevard at 61st Street and Interstate 45 in Galveston on Monday, June 11, 2018.

Interstate 45, which starts in Galveston and stretches almost 300 miles to Dallas, is the deadliest road in the United States, according to a new report.

The highway has 56.5 fatal crashes for every 100 miles, according to the report by Budget Direct. This is partially because of the busy stretches that cut through cities and also because of drivers being lax, the report said.

I-45 has been under construction for over fifty years. These "work zones" are a major contributor of accidents. My experience has been that especially in congested areas they are poorly marked and poorly lit at night. I have no reason to believe that construction projects on I-45 will ever be finished as long as the money keeps flowing in to continue them.
