The microfilmed copies of the Tribune were okay for its time but the low resolution copies available online are sometimes hard to read and photographs don't look that good. I hope the same is done to Galveston's The Daily News. And to our neighbors to the north, their newspapers should also be preserved. The Houston Post is available on microfilm only. You can view them at the University of Houston at Clear Lake's library. Old copies The Chronicle are not available. Old newspapers should be preserved in a digital format. They are a "portal to history" - good and bad. Historical revisionist have rewritten history - and that's sad. These old newspapers will clarify things.

The Santa Fe Old School Museum has bound copies of "The Bulletin" and copies of old newspapers for the Highway 6 area such as "The World Sentinel" but not a complete set. Digital copies of the "Bulletin" are also available at the Hitchcock and Santa Fe public libraries on CD. Again - not a complete set.

This is a terrific idea - our history must be preserved. I can spend hours on the Rosenberg Library's newspaper archive website - history is fascinating, even what at the time I'm sure seemed mundane.

I find it interesting these people are handling these documents without gloves. I understood that such handling was detrimental to the documents. Is that not true?

Lesley Sommer

Not necessarily. When handling especially fragile documents, many trained archivists prefer not to wear gloves. The human hand is incredibly sensitive, and gloves can reduce your lightness of touch. It should be noted that of course you should be washing your hands regularly to remove oils when not wearing gloves.
