Well, what do we expect when guns are so easily obtained in this nation? The problem will never go away until we get serious about sensible gun laws. And please don't give me the old argument that guns do not kill people, people kill people. It's an old and tired argument without substance. We need workable solutions that provide REAL results. In my humble opinion that means strong gun control laws. But I fear this nation doesn't care. They would rather let it go on, spiraling out of control as they sit back with their MAGA hats on, in envy of their own personal arsenals while countless crimes and deaths occur daily. This is evident by the 70 million who voted for tRump in the election.

Just because it is an Old Argument doesn't mean it doesn't have merit. Children have to be raised to respect others and to have certain values which do not cheapen life.

That aint news! Lamarque always been crime ridden!!! Lol

Brad Dillon

So... more gun laws means that criminals who don't abide by other laws will actually abide by more guns laws? That's interesting... The gun laws (or any laws) in place now only affect LAW ABIDING citizens.

Doug>Guns aren't the problem, it's the people who use them.

DOUG SIVYER: THE PROBLEM IS THE HEART OF MAN IS EVIL, GUNS DON'T KILL IT'S MAN. IF HE DON'T HAVE A GUN HE'LL US A KNIFE, IF HE DON'T HAVE A KNIFE HE'LL UES A STICK. THE ANSWER IS MEN NEED JESUS THE CHRIST, THE SAVIOR OF MAN, HE HAS PAID THE PRICE FOR SIN ON THE CROSS, IF MAN BELIEVE IN THERE HEART THAT JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS FOR THEIR SINS THE WILL BE SAVED, THIER HEART WILL BE CHANGED, NO MORE MURDERING.John 3:16-18 (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Virginia Stone

If only, if only, children were taught to respect others and learn to use and or respect fire arms properly we wouldn't need gun control laws, if only parents taught kids to always use abstinence we wouldn't need birth control, the problem with this logic is the idea of if only's is not a realistic view of human behavior, it is why we need laws because it is unrealistic to expect people to do the right thing since many will not or don't care or have enough to deal with just being in a dysfunctional family. Too many guns equals too many shootings and guns can be controlled much easier than human thinking.

Its time for real Change to come to La Marque from the top to the bottom. We are a city disconnected from its residents due to a lack of real community policing and community trust. Praying for new leaders to emerge that possess intelligent strategies and are not afraid to stand up to the establishment/old guard that desires La Marque to stay "backward" and disrespected by county leadership so that they can control a few people and items on an agenda.

The ministry of La Marque is a powerful voice in spreading the word that such as has been reported is sinful. More preachers need to put this in their message. If those perps ever attended church find out where you lost them. It is known that continued attendance in church is largely dependent on whether their fathers attended. Keeping the family together in church attendance will be a step in eliminating the problems La Marque and other communities have.

Sgt. Richard Valdemar retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after spending most of his 33 years on the job combating gangs said the following.

"A fiery Christian preacher once argued with me that all gang members need to change their life is Jesus. "If they had Jesus they would not be gangsters," he said. What that preacher didn't realize is that most gang members do believe in Jesus and God.

They just believe more in their gang. When it becomes a choice between God or gang, the gang member will, in the overwhelming number of instances, choose his gang over God.

Have you ever attend a gang member's funeral? They are often huge ritualistic religious events with gospel groups, preachers, and elaborate graveside services all invoking God's name.

This shouldn't surprise you. Many gang members claim to be religious. They wear crosses and rosaries and even tattoo these symbols on their bodies. Despite such professions of faith, gang members find no contradiction in shooting heroin into an arm with a tattoo of Our Lady of Guadalupe or shooting someone because he flashed a rival gang sign."

Carlos Ponce

"Our Lady of Guadalupe" (Virjen de Guadalupe) in LA County.

Those are Hispanic gangs or pandillas. Do you know of a pandilla problem in La Marque, Jim?

Gary Miller

Destroying the family structure was one of the socialists first steps to destroying US culture. Replacing US culture was African culture related to the week family culture of Africa. Starting with the pracitce of buying wives to have babies to be sold as slaves. Violence is the end result and dominates where African culture rules.

There are old timers here now, but when they were younger they use to serve as mentors for young men in sports, and other organized activities which kept idle youths engaged and involved! I don't see that happening here not to the extreme it use to be done some years ago. The results from that breach in involvement ....help give birth to what we are witnessing now,..lawlessness! Bring back those programs, and activities which were so effective years ago, and things will change just as they did the last time we had a bad gang problem here!

I can remember when we had Galveston County Sheriff Deputies, and Constables teaming up to play organized basketball games at Carver Park Pavilion against BLOODS & CRIPP teams! Ex. Constable Tottenham was heavily involved with those efforts! They had programs set up to help those young men find employment, jobs, and training programs! The Officers did not abdicate from their duties to get lawbreakers off the streets, but what they did do was to take reasonable steps to show that SOMEBODY cared! Many times that can mean all the difference! When I was an officer in Houston, I had a repore with gang members. You have to be able to talk with them. It will take some work to get to that point, and there is no doubt about that! I think that if a community wait until gang crimes are committed before steps are taken to prevent gang crimes, they are missing the boat, but that's just me!
