Let me fill in the gaps with this post from the city's facebook page - Thanks to the work of several individuals in the community, a new rainbow crosswalk is being painted at 25th and Ball and 25th and Sealy streets to celebrate LGBT Pride Month this June and show Galveston is a welcoming community to all. Check back later for the finished product and more information about the effort! This is a privately-funded effort by individuals in the community. No city funds or labor are being used toward the crosswalk. The city granted permission of the use of the right of way.

When a ‘right to life’ supporter wants to pay to paint little embryos on the walkway next month, will the community be welcoming or divisive? This is a poor decision by the City. Welcome everyone, and as part on that position, don’t take private money to paint infrastructure with social-political messages - from anyone.
