After experimenting with a few hues last month, crews this week began painting the Grand Galvez Resort & Spa a peachy pink.

I'm grateful the new owners are honoring the Galvez' history.

2-3 months to paint! I'll never again complain about how long it takes to paint our house!

I’ve read many online comments regarding the plans for the historic Galvez..... I’ve read he’s removing the beautiful bar, that the Hotel was originally pink... it wasn’t. It was beige but they needed the paint to be thicker so they added dust from pink granite to the paint. In the evenings it would have a pink like sheen as the sun set but the color? Was beige. It’s why the Mitchell’s in their true renovation painted it beige.

That doesn’t jive with this developers plans though.

The interior is to be black and white with a dash of red... again hardly remaining true to the history of the hotel and Galveston itself. We are not Key West, We are not Hollywood...and based on the hundreds of comments online from locals? No one wants to be Key West or Hollywood, we want to remain a historical island, bring in tourist to see not only the beaches but visit our tour homes, the museums, the historic Strand downtown and so much more.

We are not a tourist destination that needs help lol. We are busy busy busy.

Having looked at his Play Naughty, Sleep Saintly hotel he renovated? I was not impressed.

Time will tell if his changes are in line with, and benefit, the most majestic hotel on the island but I’m not going to hold my breath.
