Galveston should claim its place among these amazing sites. The trails listed, as well as the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Mormon Pioneer Trail, the El Camino Real de los Tejas, the Captain John Smith Chesapeake Trail - these all capture events of significance in our national development. But none of them can rival the monumental significance of the emancipation of 4 million Americans, and the beginning of the fulfillment of the promise of our nation's founding, and the saving of its soul. Kudos to Senator Cornyn and Congresswoman Jackson Lee for working together on this.
