Mariel Hemingway

Oscar-nominated actor Mariel Hemingway will speak about how she avoided some of the tragic fates of her family at the Galveston Women’s Conference, an Oct. 28 event hosted by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Mariel Hemingway

Mariel Hemingway spent a good part of her life running from the “Hemingway curse” — a legacy of depression, addiction and suicide.

The Oscar-nominated actor’s paternal grandfather, Nobel prize-winning writer Ernest Hemingway, took his own life with what historians believe was a long-barreled, side-by-side pigeon gun in the foyer of a house in Ketchum, Idaho, in 1961, almost five months before Mariel was born.
