College of the Mainland trustees likely will vote whether to extend the president’s contract after her supporters asked the board to reconsider letting it expire, the board chairman said.

Earlier this year, the board gave President Beth Lewis a letter, signed by all trustees, stating her contract, which expires Dec. 31, might not be extended. Trustees in an annual evaluation cited lack of communication with the board and failure to do long-term strategic planning for the college.

I've had the pleasure of serving with Dr. Beth Lewis in many different settings and believe that she is, without doubt, the best leader for COM. And, judging by the outpouring of support from community members, faculty, staff, and alumni I'd say I'm not alone in my assessment.

I hope the Board and Dr. Lewis will be able to straighten this out, execute a contract extension, and get back to the business of running this institution in short order.
