Officials on Tuesday identified two men who died in a head-on car crash in Texas City.

Police were dispatched at 5:37 p.m. Friday to 2500 state Highway 146 S., where a Dodge Ram had struck a white Ford pickup, Texas City Police Department spokesman Cpl. Melencio Villarreal said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was Timothy Paugh, 51, from La Marque, Villarreal said. He died on the scene, Villarreal said.

The driver of the Ford pickup was flown to a University of Texas Medical Branch hospital and died the next day, Villarreal said. He has been identified as Roger Macias, 54, of Houston, Villarreal said.

Preliminary investigation found that before the collision the Dodge Ram had traveled north in southbound traffic lanes and sideswiped a Buick traveling south on Highway 146, Villarreal said. The Dodge Ram struck a concrete retaining wall at the north loop overpass and re-entered the traffic lanes, where it collided head-on with the white pickup.

The Texas City Police Department was investigating the crash.
