A 40-foot Carver boat caught fire Thursday in Clear Lake Shores and is a total loss, Kemah Fire Chief Brent Hahn said.

No one was injured and, other than the boat, there was no damage, he said.

The fire, which created black smoke, started while someone was doing mechanical work to the boat, Hahn said.

Kemah, League City and Seabrook fire departments responded.
