Violence is among the most pervasive and shattering of human woes. It can touch any life, at any time, in any place — in our homes, our workplaces, where we worship and learn — in cities, states and countries anywhere in the world. Its costs are stunning and its causes widely varied and sometimes obscure — from child abuse, to homicide, to mass shootings, to war.

An auspicious goal: "The Center for Violence Prevention, which will be introduced this week at the medical branch, will be dedicated to studying violence at its roots, in the hopes that understanding will lead to prevention."

The key is to develop measurable indicator parameters to enable tracking and evaluating how well is the program "preventing (or reducing) violence." It would be interesting to have a follow-up article defining 3-5 goals or targets. Just my thoughts.
