American National Insurance Co. employees no longer will have to wade through knee-high water just to get to work when it rains.

Am I missing something here? The streets will still flood and the cars still need to get to the garage and can flood out so what is really resolved other than they deserved a parking garage? Just inquiring as I don't quite understand.

Missed something? Read the last paragraph.

[thumbup] Good for the employees, good for the island.

[thumbup] American National should be commended for taking the potential lemon of neighborhood flooding with a plaza and turning it into the lemonade of the skybridge's better employee access and perhaps event parking for downtown.

This isn't just a functional build. ANICO's garage design integrates with the tower and is visually cohesive in pulling the two together. I'm glad they decided to move ahead with this on their own. The Medical Arts building folks appear to have completely stalled out and ANICO would have lost all that time waiting for them in a cooperative parking lot build.

As someone who was very vocal in opposition to the plaza concept, I think ANICO deserves congratulations on their successful adaptation to community needs in a way that adds to downtown's vibe. I like it!

Good for resale too if they ever decide to sell the building

Someone needs to share this idea with the hotel crosswalks (deathtrap) on seawall.

I guess I haven’t looked real close, but the bridge appears to only cross the street. The employees still have to open up their umbrellas or make a run for it once they step out on the tower side just to get to the front doors. Couldn’t they have taken it just a little further?
