The Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico’s most infamous drug cartels, might have influence in Galveston County, according to a new report from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration detailing drug threats across the country.

I'm glad that this isn't a problem in the county.

Not that I want to nitpick, but it's U.S. 59 that runs southwest to Laredo and the border. This road is I-69 in Houston.

As US 59 is upgraded it becomes I-69. Just like most of US 75 became I-45, US 59 will be replaced by I-69.

Read "Ask 2: Why was U.S. Highway 59 changed to Interstate 69?"

"In the works for many years, I-69 is a multi-state highway known as the “NAFTA Highway” linking the Mexican and Canadian borders and many U.S. metro areas."

NAFTA Highway/Drug Corridor - either name fits. If Law Enforcement perceives the Cartels don't have "influence" on this tiny sandbar, in my humble opinion, I believe they are mistaken.

The drugs are prevalent as ever here and they come from across the border. I am not casting aspersions in the direction of the Law, just stating what I see with my own two eyes. Put up cameras after I caught one on a bicycle doing a deal on 57th a few years back. I know Law Enforcement has their hands tied much of the time - needing probable cause to get a warrant, but when you got traffic at a particular place at all hours, there's a fairly good chance something is amiss.
