[thumbup] Galveston needs to support the things that make the island a unique and desirable destination. BIrding is definitely one of those.
Congratulations to Galveston! I hope more cities will take action to protect birds! Since League City has stated that LC would like to be a bird tourism destination, perhaps with all the planned development on the West side, conserving bird habitat will start becoming a priority as the bulldozers show up to clear the land of trees.
Hi Myer. Galveston actually has TWO Christmas Bird Count circles. :) One, the historic count, including central Galveston, some parts of Bolivar, and mainland Galveston County up into Texas City including the 2600 AC Scenic Galveston Nature Preserve complex on Virginia Point, is now coordinated by my husband and me. Sally Pachulski and others have more recently developed the West End Galveston CBC, which is excellent to get the Island entirely covered. Go Birds!!!!
We are one of the fortunate families of Galveston Island that have had Birders from al over the country come and stay at our home while they explore our grasslands mostly during the spring and fall seasons. Our feeders are kept full year round. Our only problem is that our neighbors cats hide in the shrubs waiting for the birds to come.
