Growing up in Texas City, Chasity Porter dreamed of helping people as either a doctor or a police officer.

She never considered her dream might also involve history, but it did Sept. 16 when she became the first Black female police officer ever to serve in the city of Dickinson, which was incorporated in 1977 and formed its police department in 1982.
