It is a pretty sorry state of affairs when the previous police chief and whoever else the “detectives” were in this case that “investigated thoroughly” would come up with this boldfaced lie, to the point of “commending” this thief for a job well done. This is why people don’t trust the police, and who could blame them? This “cover each other no matter what” attitude has got to change. Police do so much to protect and serve the public and the bad apples should be forced out publicly. This is what would bring back respect for the majority of fine police officers that serve!!

Demanding that much money for the release of the videotape surely violates the spirit of the Open Records Act. TCPD should be ashamed!!

$10 000 to release the video is extortion on top of the cover up of the officers actions. This goes a long way to erode public trust in police departments, especially Texas City PD
