“ Since Trump’s claims, several candidates for office in smaller races across the country have borrowed the playbook after losing their contests.”

Matt, you are going to catch hell from the MAGAs for that one!

Carlos Ponce

Questioning the outcome of a suspected election is common throughout American history. Not questioning is very Orwellian.

Norman Pappous

“Questioning the outcome of an election, especially without evidence, shatters peoples’ faith in democracy,” said Brandon Rottinghaus, a professor of politics at the University of Houston.

“There was a widespread understanding that this election [in 2016] was not on the level,” Clinton said during an interview for the latest episode of The Atlantic’s politics podcast, The Ticket. “We still don’t know what really happened.”

“There’s just a lot that I think will be revealed. History will discover,” the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nominee continued. “But you don’t win by 3 million votes and have all this other shenanigans and stuff going on and not come away with an idea like, ‘Whoa, something’s not right here.’ That was a deep sense of unease.”

She was wrong. She lost. Just like Trump in 2020.

Carol Dean

And, Norman, how do you know that there is NOT evidence???

Bailey Jones

It seems the good people of CCISD made the right choice in this election.

Mark Stevens

Ms. Parizo: Face it, sweetie, you lost. But not a total loss. Your campaign was simply to make a name for yourself and move up the ladder...had nothing to do with CCISD or the kids. So...having burnished your political chops, why not go ahead and oppose Randy Weber for nomination to the 14th Congressional District. He's useless and you are, well, prettier.

Bailey Jones

No need to be condescending.

Karen Sawyer

Are her supporters going to storm the admin building?

Bailey Jones

Covfefe mann

Are her critics going to burn down cities, defund the police and cry that it's all just so racist?

Petitioners for recounts should be required to provide evidence to support their claims of 'irregularities'. More voters turning out is NOT an irregularity and winning by a certain percentage point should guarantee no recount. Seems an ill conceived way to spend eleven hundred bucks.

Craig Mason

She lost because she was a horrible candidate for the school board and that spurred higher voter turnout. It seems since Trump, that the republicans have become the party of sore losers.

Carol Dean

How do you know she hasn't already done so???

Ron Shelby

The loss was so wide, it wouldn't be something I'd recommend. I'm surprised that there's not a "limit" at which a recount can't be called. e.g. if the spread between winner and loser is more than 20%, no recounts will be done.

Covfefe mann

"Texas election law stipulates that because Clear Creek uses an electronic voting system any candidate can request a recount regardless of the election margin, according to an overview of procedures from the Texas Secretary of State’s office." So she is completely within her rights to do this, but for some reason (I think we all know why), this paper has decided to make it sound like some sort of scandalous deed.

Carol Dean

Old voting machines are easily "hacked", especially the type that was used in the CCISD election. It would not be the first time it has happened in Galveston County.

Evidently many of our conservative friends and some of the local commenters are suffering from the deadly new disease spreading across America: ‘Foxitis’ https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/may/08/fox-news-deadly-disease-foxitis-arwa-mahdawi

Ted Gillis

No Mr. Butchered Up Man named dude, we all do not know why that is. Why not enlighten us.

Stuart Crouch

Seriously? And y'all wonder why you lost? [beam]
