Flu shots

Registered nurse Gary Delzer gives a flu shot to Alondra Perez at the Galveston County Health District in Texas City on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020. The county has reported close to 4,000 cases of flu this season.

Galveston County has received reports of more than twice the number of influenza cases between Oct. 1 and now as it did during the same time period last year.

“Last year, from Oct. 1 through Jan. 29, we had 1,350 reported cases of influenza,” said Ashley Tompkins, communications director for the Galveston County Health District. “This year, since Oct. 1 we’ve received 3,813 reported influenza cases.”

While the flu story is great, the picture of the nurse wearing no gloves is concerning.
