La Marque pre-K through eighth-graders will no longer have a standardized dress code when school starts next month, Texas City Independent School District said this week.

In February, the Texas City Independent School District said students at La Marque primary, elementary and middle schools would keep the dress uniform they’ve had for more than 20 years. But recently the district changed the code to keep it in line with its other campuses, district spokeswoman Melissa Tortorici said.

“We don’t want there to be a distinction between schools, so we’re no longer going to have standardized dress codes,” she said.

Wearing the school uniforms will be optional for pre-K through 8th-grade La Marque students, she said.
