Already one of the fastest growing cities in the region, League City is taking steps toward possibly growing even more.

The City Council will conduct the first ordinance reading to consider annexing 63.1 acres of land north of the Mar Bella subdivision and 8.53 acres of frontage along Lawrence Road Mar. 8. The council conducted its second public hearing for both unincorporated county areas Tuesday night.

Annexations like this should require that taking of the road too, including future maintenance. Otherwise the city will take the taxes from the new commercial developments that cause increased wear and tear on the road, without taking responsibility for that wear.

I wonder when and if the 90k plus population of league City will ever get a fire department that doesn't depend on teens and 70+ year old men to volunteer to fight fires. Blows my mind a city that size has a volunteer fire department.
