Friendswood officials are seeking federal help to pay for a $250,000 flood control project on Clear Creek.

The Friendswood City Council on Monday passed a resolution urging the state’s congressional delegation to request funding for a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-authorized project.

The proposed project to improve Clear Creek was ready to start in 2012, but wasn't funded in that year's federal budget.

The corps had worked on the flood control project since 1968 with input from Galveston and Harris county officials as well as representatives of the 17 cities included in the project area.

How much funding has been given to this project from the Tax Payers of Galveston County. I also understand that there are some concerns about the quality of dirt and the site (Brio Dump) from where this dirt is coming from currently being used in this project.

I wonder if any of this money is going to make its way down to Hitchcock where new neighborhoods from LaMarque are being built and then they dig big ditches to highland bayou while NOTHING is being done to the bayou.... Not for sure why they are not being made to dig big detention ponds to hold that water....
