It really does not seem fair. Galveston County is STILL building replacement homes 100% for those deemed to be "needy" by certain persons withing Galveston County govt. These homes being built with ALL of our federal tax dollars. Hard for me to understand how spending public dollars on a brand new home is solving any public flooding related problem or how this will benefit the taxpaying public.

At the same time other deserving persons go without a dime of assistance to get back on their feet.

Does not seem fair at all.

Harvey should be a wake up call to every homeowner. Get flood insurance. Another flood is coming. And it seems like a more efficient use of tax dollars than bailing out people who don't bother to get flood insurance would be to help low income homeowners pay their premiums.

You are right about flood insurance - if you can get it and afford it, you should do so. The thing to remember is that in our community we have people on fixed incomes who must choose between food and flood insurance.

I agree, Gary - that's why I think helping out with the premiums for low income homeowners should be a priority. $1000 now vs tens of $1000s later seems like a good trade off.
