The Galveston Independent School District Educational Foundation is proudly hosting the second annual Out to Eat for Education fundraiser Wednesday, and is excited to have over 40 restaurants participating.

Coinciding with Ball High School’s homecoming week, the event will occur the same day as the homecoming parade.

“We felt that by holding the event during homecoming week, GEF could contribute to the festivities, while raising awareness for our mission to enrich the educational experience and prepare students for the future,” foundation Executive Director Erin Yarbrough said.

Funds will be raised by restaurants contributing a percentage of their food sales the day of the event and will support the foundation and its Grants to Teachers and Schools program, which provides resources directly to educators to implement innovative learning strategies in GISD classrooms.

The community can support the event simply by dining out at a participating restaurant on Wednesday. A list of restaurants is available on the foundation’s website, and on the group’s Facebook event page, 2017 Out to Eat for Education.

Event committee members include Donna Mencacci (chair), Kelley Delesandri, Bonnie Farmer, Melissa Garcia, Margie Kusnerik, Carol Lee, Karla Mock and Brittany Viegas.

Mark your calendars.

Sisters Martha Justice and Betsy Striegler reunited with childhood playmate Tommy Tune after his hit show at The Grand on Sept. 23. They were neighbors and danced together as students at the Emmamae Horn Dance studio in Houston. Betsy was one of Tommy’s early dancing partners during a recital when she was 10 years old.

When summer rolled around, they gathered their recital costumes and Tommy directed all the neighbors in backyard shows he named “The Patio Review.”
