A bad time to eat Chile peppers doesn’t exist, but there may be a best time: August’s heat meets its match when the annual harvest of Hatch chile peppers rolls into, and even outside of, local grocery stores throughout this month.

It’s become a Texas tradition for stores and restaurants to add Hatch chiles to as many products as possible in August, with the options including Hatch-spiced bagels, cheese, popcorn, salads, apple pie and even beer.
