It’s a truism that cooking is as much art as it is science, but a recently released cookbook, “A Good Meal is Hard to Find,” tips the balance squarely toward art. The cookbook is a collaboration between cookbook writer Martha Hall Foose and painter Amy C. Evans, and it focuses on Southern flavors and ingredients, often in unconventional ways.

“The paintings came first, and then Martha came up with recipes inspired by the paintings,” said Evans, a Houston artist. “Then, when we were working on the book, Martha did all the cooking and I did a lot of the tasting.”
