Shrimp lovers are getting ready for the peak of the crop: Gulf shrimp season opens today, bringing mature, sea-soaked crustaceans to local markets.

Shrimp are surprisingly wide-ranging travelers, but now it’s time for that final journey to the kitchen, where they can be fried, boiled, grilled or otherwise turned into dining nirvana.
