The stock market rises and falls, small businesses of all kinds here see seasonal booms and busts. And congregations here and across the country also see those same tides rolling in and out.

Right now, the tide is out. Fewer young folks are attending church. Not all congregants came back after the heights of COVID-19. A number of smaller churches are having to choose between having a full-time, paid staff and paying the rent and utilities. (Mega-churches have been much less impacted.)
