For those of you looking for something to do with the entire family, look no further than The Grand Kids Festival, which will celebrate its 25th year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 between 20th and 23rd streets on Postoffice Street in Galveston.

Produced by The Grand 1894 Opera House and under the leadership of Festival Director Sarah Piel, the free festival is designed as an avenue to introduce children and their families to the arts with fun events, live entertainment, pony rides, a petting zoo — and what festival would be complete without food?

And, don’t worry, safety protocols will be in place, Piel said.

“The Grand is thrilled to bring this 25-year-old amazing event back to our community in a safe way,” Piel said. “We’re looking forward to reawakening our neighborhood with the arts.”

For information and sponsorship opportunities, contact Piel at spiel@thegrand.com or 409-770-5066. For more information on the festival, visit GrandKidsFestival.com.

ARTWALK RETURNS THIS WEEKEND

The much-anticipated return of the Galveston ArtWalk, sponsored by the Galveston Arts Center, returns this weekend after gaining the approval from city officials, organizers said.

So, if you like to walk and have a love of visual arts, this is an event you don’t want to miss — or one you want to get reacquainted with since most of us have been cooped up in the house.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The center also will present a new exhibition by Heyd Fontenot titled “Sacred Order of Eternal Wounds.” It’ll remain on view through July 11.

The center, which has been hosting ArtWalk for more than 35 years, presents these events every six weeks. They include almost every form of visual art that you can imagine in various galleries and venues across the island from local artists and those from afar as well.

For a complete listing of what venues will be part of ArtWalk Saturday and a downloadable brochure, visit galvestonartscenter.org or call 409-763-2403.

THE SELFLESS LOVERS SET TO PERFORM

The Selfless Lovers, a piano-driven rock ‘n’ roll band based in Austin, will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday at Yaga’s Café at 2314 Strand St. in Galveston. Admission is free.

Considered a must-see live act by music critics, The Selfless Lovers’ original music draws on classic rock, soul, blues and southern rock influences and showcases an energized retro sound, fantastic musicianship and danceable original songs.
