The good folks over at the Bay Area Harbour Playhouse are gearing up for its 26th anniversary and are inviting you and me to help them celebrate this huge milestone.
The gala will feature a silent auction, catered dinner, and a marvelous show starring more than 40 actors and alumni. Ken Williamson, who currently lives in Washington D.C., is coming back to produce the show.

‘Paper Sparrow’ set to perform
“A Night with Paper Sparrow” will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Mod Coffeehouse, 2126 Postoffice St., in Galveston.
Matt Kinard aka Paper Sparrow, a local musician will be performing songs from his third album, which features the single “Snake Charmer” (to get a sneak peek, visit disarmhatewithlove.com.)
Kinard has played close to 100 shows over the last two years or so and has been named “one of the most underrated artists in Houston,” by the Houston Press.

Set those DVRs
If you didn’t get a chance to catch The Texas Tenors’ performance last fall at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, well make sure you set your DVR or watch it air at 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. Aug. 12 or 6 p.m. Aug. 20 on your local PBS channel.
The concert features a live orchestra and choir performing songs such as “Amazing Grace,” “Lovin’ Feelin’,” “Country Roads, Take Me Home” and “God Bless America” — just to name a few.
Summer Beach Band news
Texas City native, Thomas Doyle will return for a special performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the city of Galveston’s Summer Beach Band concert at the Sealy Pavilion on Sealy Street between 23rd and 24th streets in Galveston.
Doyle, a senior at Texas Tech University, is a member of the men’s choral group, the Matador Singers, and has been delighting concert attendees with a variety of Frank Sinatra tunes, presented in the style of Sinatra, himself.
Tuesday’s concert also will include popular tunes by the 24-piece band and presentations by vocalist Karenna Lee, as well. And the ever popular children events such as the Mariachi Band and the Mickey Mouse march and flag parade also will take place.
14th annual Yawl Ketch the Spirit
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is inviting the community to board the “Love Boat” at its 14th annual Yawl Ketch the Spirit … of Devereux event set for Thursday onboard the FantaSea Yacht in Kemah.
The two-and-a-half hour cruise around Galveston Bay will include a meal, live auctions, raffles and more.
Tickets are $125 per person and sponsorships are still available. Proceeds help to support the children and adolescents in Devereux’s Residential Treatment program.
