Pulling up stakes: A company founded in 1956 in Galveston is consolidating its island and League City operations.

American Fence & Supply Co., known for fencing, gate hardware, metal supplies, dog kennels and more, at the end of August moved inventory and employees from its island site, 6612 Harborside Drive, to its League City location, 2215 Interstate 45.

The federal government has limited continuing responsibilities under our constitution: the postal service, control of our borders and the money supply. Even the army has to be reauthorized every year to avoid the standing army prohibition. I can't imagine why folks don't want the feds involved even more deeply in our lives. They seem to be great at everything they do. (cough cough)

BTW re the conspiracy theory about tracking us, here's one that makes dollars and sense, at least for the card companies. The big international credit card companies are encouraging governments to go cashless. Why? Because they will be the ones handed the franchise to process card and contact cashless transactions. They will make a fee for every single transaction that is placed on a card or contact. Tens of billions of transactions each day, and they will own the toll booth you pass through on the way.

Crazy, huh? Who could believe monolithic transnational companies would ever pick profits over consumers?
