Secret sale? Pertinent parties aren’t talking, but rumors are flying that an unnamed buyer will soon acquire roughly 1,000 acres on the island’s West End.

The land spanning FM 3005 between 8 Mile and 11 Mile roads has been known as the Marquette property since 2006 when Chicago-based Marquette Land Investments acquired the Chapoton Ranch. It was the largest single land sale in Galveston’s history.

Good on Rumors for navigating their way past the governor.

If I remember correctly after the planning commission extended the special use permit while Bruce Reinhardt was commissioner, Mr Reinhardt turned around and bought the gulf front property from Marquette. I still remember Reinhardt being concerned enough to go before city council to ask if the extended SUP was extended to him. Since it was during Louis’s mayoral tenure and corruption was done publicly, it was a sure thing. Just one of the many shenanigans Marquette has pulled. To this day I have no idea why the GLO got mixed up in this deal
