The coronavirus pandemic has turned life as we know it on its head. Even the traditional starts and stops to the tourism seasons on the island have been upended.
Typically, late August and September mean that children go back to school and families wrap up their summer vacations. The park board closes amenities at its beach parks and takes a few months to repair and update its facilities. Beach patrol removes its stations from the beachfront and, with a reduced staff, patrols the water from its trucks.
