If you’re looking to light up your night tonight, make sure you get to 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard after dark. The Galveston Park Board is presenting a laser light show over the Gulf of Mexico.

The laser show will consist of lights that will reflect off fog from machines. It’s being produced by San Marcos-based Laser Spectacles. The company has produced shows at concerts, conventions, fairs and festivals throughout Texas and beyond.

Mary Beth Bassett is the public relations coordinator for the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Park Board of Trustees.

So, a handful of people complained about the fireworks, and the city caved. What a shame. As a lifetime resident, we looked forward to the weekly shows from our backyard. Very sad.

I hope this takes off. You can watch fireworks anywhere, and they can terrify local pets. A well done laser show has a lot more wow factor and will give the island something unique. Hopefully they won't blind any pilots.[scared]
