As part of my job as a public relations manager for the park board, I travel to Austin to meet with media and tourism partners. Once a year, I host an event that brings these media members and Galveston partners together to network, share story ideas and island developments.

Of course, this event fell by the wayside during the pandemic. But it has gained traction as writers and partners are ready to be out and about to meet with one another.

Mary Beth Bassett is the public relations coordinator for the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Park Board of Trustees.
