LEAGUE CITY — The start of the school year is just around the corner. It won't just be the first day of school for many students.
In the Clear Creek school district, the start of school also marks their first day in the classroom. District officials hired more than 300 new teachers for the upcoming school year.
Many of those teachers took part in the 49th annual New Teacher Luncheon hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon was held at South Shore Harbour Resort in League City.
Clear Creek school officials anticipate 450 new students to the 41,000-student school district, said district spokeswoman Elaina Polsen.
In 2009, the district had 39,611 students, compared to 40,807 students in 2015, for a 8.7 percent increase in enrollment, Polsen said.
To address the increase, the school district hired 300 new teachers districtwide, bringing the total number of teachers to 2,800, school officials said.
