Sailboat sinks near Texas City levee

This boat was seen sinking near the Texas City Levee not far from the Grand Cay Harbor subdivision.

TEXAS CITY — Early in the day Monday, officials in Texas City decided to close the Texas City Dike.

It is the first time since Hurricane Ike nearly destroyed the dike in 2008 and forced it to be shut down for two years, that the 5-mile-long pier has been closed to the public.

Jeremy Brown, who lives in Texas City, also took a photo of what appears to be a sailboat sinking near the Texas City Levee. He said it looked like the boat had rammed into some pilings near the Grand Cay Harbor subdivision that sits on the inside of the levee system.

We didn't hear of any reports of a rescue or a distress call, so not sure if that was a boat that broke free from its dock or not.
