The Thanksgiving edition of The Daily News is a holiday shopper's delight. It is full of bargains just in time for the Black Thursday and Black Friday sales.

Starting at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, more than 54,000 copies of the county's oldest and largest media outlet were delivered to homes across Galveston County.

We also had about 20 people on street corners, in front of shopping centers and at busy intersections offering the early editions of The Daily News.

In addition to the advertisements on the best holiday bargains in the region, the news content in today's special edition offers you Laura Elder's detailed look at the safety concerns surrounding the proposed LNG terminal at Pelican Island in Galveston, an in-depth report on the county's food desert communities and a sampling of what some readers are thankful for this Thanksgiving Day.

In sports, James LaCombe takes a look back at the surprises so far this year in high school athletics and Capt. Joe Kent bids farewell to a longtime Galveston bait shop owner.

While we are talking about special holiday content, The Daily News is offering you a way to get your holiday photos published.

It is our first holiday photo content. Between now and Dec. 26, post your favorite holiday photos to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and hashtag the photos #GalvJoy.

On Dec. 26 our panel of judges will pick the three best holiday photos. The first place winner will receive $100 plus four passes to Moody Gardens' Ice Land attraction.

Second place will win $75 while third will be given $50.
