Hungry to try a new island restaurant?

Ocean Grille & Beach Bar on the Seawall opened this week, serving up seafood, burgers and more. 

After months of preparations, Ocean Grille & Beach Bar, 1228 Seawall Blvd. on the island, has fired up the grill.

The restaurant, a Randall Pettit concept, opened earlier this week serving up seafood, burgers and more.

Ocean Grille & Beach Bar is acquiring its seafood fresh off the docks at Katie’s Seafood Market in Galveston. It also boasts its own herb garden and wine list with more than 100 selections and friendly prices, Pettit said. The restaurant also is serving Wagyu beef, which has been referred to as “American-style Kobe.”

“I’m extremely pleased how everything turned out,” Pettit said.

Brian Peper, formerly of Costa Brava Bistro in Houston, is the chef.

Bryan Davis is the general manager; Barry Waite is the beverage manager; and Dawn Broadley is the front of the house manager.

Pettit worked closely with chef consultant Randy Evans, who last summer closed his popular Houston eatery Haven, a farm-to-table concept famous for its fried chicken and upscale comfort food.

Pettit is known for his involvement in such island bar and restaurant concepts as 21 and The West End Restaurant & Sand Bar, among others.

Tried it Friday night. Excellent service and the wagyu burger is amazing!

Not family friendly & somewhat noisy. My fish was raw & had to send it back. Somewhat pricey; aimed at beach crowd. Big list of beers and wines though.

Food was delicious! The appetizer was really good, and the meal we had was outstanding. Service was great. I would definitely recommend it.

Tried it Saturday and was not impressed. Good service but the food and drinks didn't come close to the prices charged. Would not recommend it.

We have been three times since it opened. Every meal was great and the service was top notch. The oyster appetizer is truly outstanding, the wine list is one of the best on the island and the fish special the two times we ordered it was really good. This is becoming one of our "go to" spots and would definitely recommend. Completely disagree that this is intended for the beach crowd.
