As summer quickly approach there is no shortage of live music on Galveston Island. Thanks to the Pier 21 music series, Party on the Pier, some top notch musicians are coming to town. This week brings Carolyn Wonderland to the stage by the water.

Wonderland is an accomplished blues woman who has been slinging a guitar since she was a 15 girl at Fitzgerald's in Houston. She has a list of awards and album credits too long to list but in brief Wonderland has picked up and incorporated blues, country, swing, zydeco, surf, gospel and soul into her music.

Only a couple of weeks later another talented lady, Paula Nelson, will also take the Pier 21 stage and later in the year Vallejo will visit the island.

But the Pier 21 music series is just one of the free outdoor series going on all summer and into the fall. Mitchell Historic Properties is involved in the Pier 21 series as well Music Night on the Strand which will feature bands such as the Dolly Rockers (June 22), Sam Navarro and the Lone Star Devils (July 13), CitiZEN Change (July 27) and Come See My Dead Person (October 26), among others.

Out on East Beach, a music series at the rebuilt pavilion will also be graced by Wonderland's blues. She'll be there on Sunday, June 16. That music series will also have some country and cajun with Kevin Anthony & G-Town (June 23), some Caribbean jazz with Irie Time (July 14) and latino rock with Del Castillo (July 21)
