What do Wayne Toups, Cowboy Mouth and Cody Canada & The Departed have in common?

They'll all be in League City in late September headlining the three days of the Boogie, Blues & Brews Music Festival.

Far its second time around the festival is once again pulling in some interesting and diverse acts that normally wouldn't stop in League City if not for the blues festival.

Cowboy Mouth:

Cody Canada & The Departed:

Now some of you might point out that Grammy award winning Toups, headlining Friday, Sept. 20, New Orleans based rock group Cowboy Mouth, headlining Saturday, Sept. 21, and alt-country rockers Cody Canada & the Departed, headlining Sunday, Sept. 22, aren't exactly blues bands.

That's true, of course, but for those looking for some blues guitar shredding then check out Eric Gales and Hamilton Loomis, booth talented blues guitarist, on Saturday night of the festival.

And while it would have been nice to see some Houston blue's greats on the bill, Texas Johnny Brown was part of last year's line up and someone like Little Joe Washington would be cool to see next year, I do like that the festival is able to stay flexible enough to bring in Cajun and zydeco with the inclusion of Wayne Toups and some red dirt music scene cred by brining in Cody Canada.

Last year the festival brought in groups like Los Lonely Boys, Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws, Marcia Ball and Jimmie Vaughan, among others. So while this is billed as a blues festival, it's obvious that organizers are more than willing to mix things and bring in a good mix of the music from this region.

The weekend in music

But while I'm already excited about September, this weekend also has some good music lined up.

In particular I'd check out Stingaree Restaurant with Nick Verzosa & the Noble Union on Friday and Samuel Barker and Huke Green on Saturday. The restaurant is pulling in some very talented Americana and Texas Country musicians to play in their downstairs bar.
