League City council today will consider creating an ordinance that would prohibit the chaining or tethering of dogs except under certain circumstances, among other measures meant to improve animal welfare.
All week leading up to the Monday Night Football matchup between the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, ESPN cleverly utilized some late-1990s post-grunge soft rock to tease the game, which represented quarterback Brock Osweiler’s return to the home field of his former team.
“The Roarin’ Twenties, Puttin’ on the Glitz” was the name of this year’s social event/reunion presented by girls from the sororities of yesteryear with the fundraising aspect benefitting Ronald McDonald House Galveston. The event was held at the Top Gallant Room on the Strand, music was provided by The Line Up, catering by Olympia Pier 21 and photography by Jody Micheletta-Marabella. They also offered a casino and a photo booth for the guests’ enjoyment.

Allowing one person to fence off down town Galveston, for profit, is ridiculous, and probably illegal. The way this event is promoted down town does nothing but cause problems and take away from local business. Most business down town do better labor day weekend than Mardi gras. NO GATESSep 17, 2015
It's unknown whether alcohol played a role in this. But even if it didn't play a role, hopefully the city will take efforts to eliminate the abundance of alcohol beer booths and sidewalk parties where alcohol is promoted. This is a horrible loss for the families during Mardi Gras.Feb 16, 2015
The option is simple, stop using a promoter and beer booths. It's become an annual focus and sugar coating on how to deal with intoxicated people after dark. Instead of day time parades and families, the downtown has become a complete mess and unsafe. The promoter contract is not good for Galveston. It should end for good.Feb 16, 2015
Yes, during the parades the crowds seem fine. The bad crowd comes to the Strand area after the parade and families leave. By the way, thanks for coming down and contributing to our great event! Ending the beer booths and the exposing of breasts would make it a better event, especially after dark. It's time for a change, but the parades don't need changing. Thank you again.Feb 13, 2015
It's great to see so many good people attending balls and enjoying the parades. We stopped going to the Strand after dark though because it's filled with a bad element and trashy crowd after the parades end for the last 4 years. The unruly night promotions and millions of beer beer booths on the Strand are not good or safe for families. Thank goodness for Craig Eiland and Tilman Fertitta for keeping Mardi Gras classy and safe with family activities.Feb 13, 2015
I like Mr. Maxwell, but his connections to Galveston worry me. Take a look at the contract with the Marti Gras promoter. Maxwell may have contributed to the short term of the last three managers. Oct 8, 2014
mardi gras on the strand after dark is far worse than kappa crowds. the near riots, bottle throwing and teen age drinking is much worse than kappa . the city council looks the other way on the bad mardi gras contract because of the lobbying by the promoter. .tabc write tickets to the promoter for selling to minors but it went unreported.kappa is mild compared to yaga's night parties.Apr 21, 2014
whats the difference in mike deans, yagas production, doing the same style party at mardi gras in the downtown area !!! Apr 18, 2014
why does the Galveston daily news keep hiding letters and public imput on the real true stories about mardi gras ??? by the way the the picture of father and baby was taken on seawall where its free and a family event . not what the city and promoter has turned mardi gras into on strand ...and getting worse every year !
