League City council today will consider creating an ordinance that would prohibit the chaining or tethering of dogs except under certain circumstances, among other measures meant to improve animal welfare.
All week leading up to the Monday Night Football matchup between the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, ESPN cleverly utilized some late-1990s post-grunge soft rock to tease the game, which represented quarterback Brock Osweiler’s return to the home field of his former team.
“The Roarin’ Twenties, Puttin’ on the Glitz” was the name of this year’s social event/reunion presented by girls from the sororities of yesteryear with the fundraising aspect benefitting Ronald McDonald House Galveston. The event was held at the Top Gallant Room on the Strand, music was provided by The Line Up, catering by Olympia Pier 21 and photography by Jody Micheletta-Marabella. They also offered a casino and a photo booth for the guests’ enjoyment.

Yes Randy, the enrollment is up tremendously. They need to make more classes but do not have a single room left in the building to do that. Portables are on their way to try to help with the crowding.2 days ago
The LMAA just needs to quit. The textbooks were ordered but the state takes forever to send them. I teach in a TC school and because things ordered for LM hadn't come in they came and took our resources (books) so my class didn't have enough. I had to spend out of my pocket to get the books my kids needed because of that. Why doesn't someone report on the real/bigger issue which is the daily struggle happening with behavior. It is unbelievable what is happening in the Primary and Elementary schools by both the kids and the parents. It is so bad that stories I have heard make it sound like intentional to try to make TCISD look bad and fail. The struggle is daily and I wouldn't be surprised if the quality teachers hired for the LM schools didn't make a mass exodus to other districts next year.2 days ago
Mainland Pharmacy on 6th Street in TC was mentioned in this article, but I believe they are out of business. Any word on what happened to them. It was just supposed to a short closure back in December but they have never reopened.4 months ago
Maybe they were giving the protesters a thumbs up for the spelling on the signs, as in they are glad that people who can't spell aren't running a school district anymore.5 months ago
From my understanding from someone who drove by, there were no more than 15 people in their "protest".

A badly bruised elbow......boo hoo, cry me a river. What would have been wrong with her had the fight been allowed to continue? What would they be saying if the officer hadn't broken it up and she been hurt worse? Tell your kid to not fight and she won't get hurt. Kudos to the officer for doing his job.6 months ago
It is also not the first Chick Fil A on the island. Pre Ike, there was on inside UTMB. I think it is a poor decision to not put in a drive through, especially where there is limited parking.6 months ago
I wish it well, but am not optimistic about it bringing in droves of people. From what I can find it will have an ice skating rink, train ride and carousel. The young people in our area won't go out to ride on or look at a train and carousel more than once. A carousel and train ride isn't going to draw people. I also don't think the ice skating will be much of a draw, the one near Baybrook couldn't stay open. Kemah Boardwalk and Pleasure Pier will have more rides than Adventure Pointe. Our area needs a full amusement park equivalent to Six Flags over Texas or Fiesta Texas. That is what would give our youth something to do in this area and to draw in tourists.7 months ago
Here is what is required to go along with the application for open enrollment. Many applications are denied. It isn't a free for all. They can and do ask open enrollment children to leave in the middle of the school year if they begin having discipline, attendance or grade issues.
The application packet will be accepted only with the following documents included:
• Completed application form
• Report card(s) showing each grading period of 2014-2015
• State required test scores for 2014-2015 (grades 7 to 12)
• Attendance records for each grading period of 2014-2015
• Other standardized test results (as applicable)
• Discipline records for each grading period of 2014-2015 - If none exists, a signed letter on campus
letterhead from the campus administrator. Disciplinary information for the student will be required.
All documents are required even for students currently attending Texas City ISD. Completed applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to approval based on available space and staff capacity as well as the student’s academic performance, discipline records, and school attendance history. Each application and accompanying documentation will be reviewed independently without regard to other siblings that may also request enrollment. 11 months ago
Do a little more research on the open enrollment program for TCISD. There is PLENTY of reason for people to lie about residency. There is a limited number of students allowed in under open enrollment (last number I heard was 100, but that may have changed). Also, the requirements to be allowed into the district are good attendance, good grades and good behavior, just to name a few. Many of those lying about residency wouldn't qualify to enter our district under open enrollment. There have even been instances of teachers in the district's children not being accepted under open enrollment when they were required to be open enrollment to attend (I believe that policy changed back to not required to be open enrollment as staff child with the current superintendent).11 months ago
